Bellingham criticizes referee after controversial red card

The Englishman called the decision

ridiculous

and claimed to be

used as an example

for being a newcomer in the Spanish league.

In the match against Valencia, Bellingham was sent off after arguing with the referee when he blew the final whistle while a cross was in the air. The midfielder headed the ball and scored, but the referee indicated that the game had already ended and did not validate the Madrid goal.

In the match report, the referee Jesús Gil Manzano stated that the British player showed

aggressive behavior

and swore at him.

However, the Spanish team stated that the player did use foul language, but only to complain about the disallowed goal, without any personal reference to the referee.

Due to the suspension, the star will only be cleared to play from March 31, unless Real Madrid can overturn the punishment in the Spanish sports court.

Bellingham optimistic about the appeal

”It’s difficult to talk about this because I know the club has an appeal pending (in court),”

said Jude, to the Movistar channel, after the 1-1 draw between Real Madrid and RB Leipzig, last Wednesday, for the Champions League.

”The only thing I can say is talk about the referee’s decision to blow the final whistle (with the ball in the air). He is human, but so am I,”

he added.

”I didn’t say anything offensive to him. What I feel is that, being new in LALIGA, they want to make an example out of me. I accept that, I have to take responsibility for my actions. But I also think that a two-game suspension is ridiculous. If I really have to miss these two matches, I will cheer for the team from the stands,”

he concluded.

With the ban, the star is initially prohibited from playing against Celta de Vigo and Osasuna in the next two rounds of La Liga.
